Nosferatu was one of the masterpieces of the New German Cinema. Herzog's film, with its terrifying coda in which the reincarnated fiend rides out into the world, is perhaps the most compelling screen treatment of the vampire myth. In this second edition, Brad Prager introduces S.S. Prawer's comprehensive account of the film with a new foreword.

S. S. PRAWER was Taylor Professor Emeritus of German Language and Literature at the University of Oxford. He was the author of The Blue Angel (2002) and Karl Marx and World Literature (1976; 2011), which was awarded the Isaac Deutscher Memorial Prize in 1977.

BRAD PRAGER is Associate Professor of Film Studies and German at the University of Missouri. He is the author of The Cinema of Werner Herzog: Aesthetic Ecstasy and Truth (2007) and editor of A Companion to Werner Herzog (2012).
